Hi friends! It’s been a while.
Writings and wanders
Hi friends! It’s been a while.
When I was studying abroad last spring, I got used to hopping on a bus and wandering all over England. My days were filled with hiking, exploring, and adventures. And when I got home and started working full-time right away, it was kind of a rude awakening.
Hi friends! For #mentalhealthmondays this week, I wanted to shift focus away from travel for a minute and talk about living a happy and mentally healthy life. This is something I’ve been learning about and focusing on recently, and I think it is incredibly important!
Home was constantly on my mind when I was abroad. As much as I was enjoying my studies and travels in England, I missed my family and friends. I missed Minnesota. I couldn’t wait to see them again.
Sometimes, especially during the gray winter months, I missed them so much that I wanted more than anything to just be at home again. But I already had a flight home booked for the end of May; I had to stick it out until then.
Having survived the homesickness, here’s my advice if you’re dealing with the same thing. Hopefully it will help improve your time abroad so you have the best program possible.
After I got home from my last trip abroad, I deactivated my Facebook account. It had been contributing to a negative state of mind for a few months, so I knew it had to go. While my Instagram, Pinterest, and Snapchat accounts are still active, I typically don’t have them installed on my phone, and I try to avoid spending time on them as much as possible.
Here are the biggest benefits I’ve found since minimizing social media’s influence on my life.
